ANDERSON, Ind. — Report by Race Chaser Online Managing Editor Jacob Seelman — Chris Seelman photo —
Jimmy McCune (88) showed once again that he is the car to beat in Must See Racing Sprint Car Series practice on Saturday at Anderson Speedway.
McCune, the series points leader from Toledo, Ohio, set quick time in both rounds of hot laps for the 410ci winged sprints, but his lap of 10.845 seconds (82.988 mph) around the high-banked quarter-mile oval was enough to top the 12-car field — as well as the only lap under 11 seconds in either session.
Right behind McCune was the Koehler Motorsports No. 10 entry of Chris Neuenschwander, who finished third in the series’ most recent trip to Anderson Speedway on May 20. Neuenschwander laid down a lap of 11.119 seconds (80.943 mph) in the second session to slot in as the runner-up on the overall speed charts.
Bangor, Mich. veteran and National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Jeff Bloom missed the first practice after being late to arrive, but made up for it in the second session and lapped the quarter-mile in 11.191 seconds (80.422 mph), ending up third-fastest.
Part-time CARS Tour Super Late Model competitor and former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series young gun Grant Galloway (11.299/) and Brad Wyatt (11.308/) rounded out the fast five.
McCune paced the first round of ractice with a best lap of 11.214 seconds ahead of Neuenschwander, Derek Bischak, Wyatt and Galloway.
Qualifications for the Must See Racing Sprint Car Series at Anderson Speedway are slated for 6:30 p.m.
