BRISTOL, Tenn. — HScott Motorsports announced Saturday afternoon via their official Facebook page that Michael Annett will not compete in tonight’s Bass Pro Shops/NRA Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The team said that Annett is suffering from “flu-like symptoms” and will miss his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start of the season as a result.
Annett had competed in all 22 Sprint Cup races-to-date in 2016, with a season-best finish of 20th in July.
Former HScott Motorsports Cup driver and current NASCAR XFINITY Series regular Justin Allgaier will serve as the interim driver of the No. 46 Pilot/Flying J Chevrolet at Bristol, racing the car after finishing second in Friday night’s XFINITY race to Austin Dillon.
The start marks Allgaier’s first Sprint Cup appearance since the 2015 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway in south Florida, and his 76th Cup start overall.
The Riverton, Ill. native and 2008 ARCA Racing Series champion finished eighth and 12th in last year’s two Bristol Cup races, with the former being his career-best and only top 10 result to date.
