MOORESVILLE, N.C. – After a 13-year tenure in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Red Horse Racing has suspended operations, effective immediately.
Motorsport.com first reported the story.
Team owner Tom DeLoach told Motorsport’s Lee Spencer that the decision to close the doors came due to lack of funding for his two-truck operation, and that he hopes to find a potential investor or partner to reopen the team at a later point.
However, at least for now, the shop will fall silent.
“I tried as long as I could but I can’t keep funding it out of my own pocket,” DeLoach said. “We’ve tried as best as we could but I’ve finally decided I may be building a bridge to no where.”
Over the course of the team’s 13-year Truck career, Red Horse drivers scored 16 wins, 14 poles, 112 top-five and 236 top 10 finishes in 532 all-time starts.
The shutdown comes as a huge blow to drivers Timothy Peters and Brett Moffitt, who were ranked sixth and 10th in the series point standings, respectively, after five races this season.
Peters scored all 10 of his Truck wins to-date for Red Horse, most recently at Phoenix Int’l Raceway in 2015, and made the Championship 4 last fall in the first year of the playoff system’s implementation at the the Truck level.
Moffitt scored his first NASCAR national series win of any kind under the Red Horse banner, when he drove to victory lane over Peters last summer at Michigan Int’l Speedway.
