MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Report by Race Chaser Online Managing Editor Jacob Seelman — HHP/Alan Marler photo — Regan Smith, who currently sits second in the NASCAR Nationwide Series points standings, has signed a one-year contract extension with JR Motorsports, the team announced on Wednesday.

Smith has driven for the team since November of 2012 and has posted four series wins during his tenure, including a win in his debut start with the team at Homestead-Miami Speedway. He is currently 26 points behind teammate Chase Elliott in the championship hunt, and has notched a win (Daytona Speedweeks), seven top fives and 24 top tens in 28 starts this season.

Team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Smith broke the news of the contract renewal on Twitter.

Jacob Seelman, 31, is the founder of 77 Sports Media and the current PR and digital content director for Race Face Brand Development. He studied Broadcast Journalism at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C., and also serves as the full-time tour announcer for the Must See Racing Sprint Car Series. A 12-year veteran of covering all forms of racing, Seelman is a multi-time award-winning writer whose work has been published in both SPEED SPORT Magazine and Athlon Magazine, among other publications. He has also helped to mentor multiple other writers and content creators who have gone on to successful careers in motorsports.
