NEW PHILIDELPHIA, Ohio — Brian Gerster became the first repeat fast qualifier in five Must See Racing Sprint Car Series events this season, taking down the quick time in the series’ inaugural appearance at Midvale Speedway on Saturday evening.

In the first race for winged sprint cars at the track in 16 years, Gerster toured the three-tenths-mile oval in 12.497 seconds (86.421 mph), notching the 57th-career asphalt sprint car pole for the Dick Myers-owned No. 50m RAM Engineering Midwest sprint car.

Saturday also marked Gerster’s series-leading 24th fast time in Must See Racing competition.

Jeff Bloom went out in the middle of the order and laid down the second-fastest time of the qualifying session, posting a best lap of 12.519 seconds (86.269 mph) in the No. 26 Flint Trucking/Rev-X Oil machine.

Final practice pacesetter Ryan Gillenwater was third on the speed charts in the No. 45 Fifth Street Auto Care/Royal Purple mount, clocking within a tenth of Gerster’s pole time at 12.556 seconds (86.015 mph) but being unable to replicate his field-topping performance from earlier in the day.

Two-time defending series champion Jimmy McCune (12.642/85.430) and former series Rookie of the Year Anthony McCune (12.958/83.346) completed the Fast Five.

Bronzie Lawson IV, a recent Virginia Sprint Series winner at Langley Speedway, timed in sixth-fastest and just ahead of South African native Jacques Roos, who landed seventh in his maiden Must See Racing appearance.

Racing action at Midvale Speedway is slated for a 7 p.m. start time.
