STATESVILLE, N.C. — JEGS Automotive Inc. will continue its sponsorship of Cody Coughlin in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series as he transitions to GMS Racing for the 2018 season.
The news comes just three days after GMS Racing officials announced that the 22-year-old Ohio driver will race as one of four full-time drivers for the team in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series this year.
Last season, Coughlin contested the full Truck Series schedule for ThorSport Racing, scoring one top-five and three top-10 finishes across the 23-race season en route to a 13th-place finish in the final point standings.
Coughlin carries some momentum into the new year as well, with his career-best Truck Series finish of third coming during the penultimate race of the season at Phoenix Int’l Raceway (now ISM Raceway) in November.
“I couldn’t be more excited to join the GMS Racing family, and to be back running with Chevrolet,” said Coughlin. “GMS Racing is a team that has proven to be one of the teams to beat every time they unload at the race track, and now I have the same opportunity.”
“I can’t thank GMS Racing, team owner Maury Gallagher and director of competition Mike Beam enough for this chance. I think we have the right tools and personnel in place with the No. 2 JEGS Chevrolet Silverado team to run up front and contend for race wins every weekend.”
Coughlin joins teammates Justin Haley, Dalton Sargeant and Johnny Sauter in the four-truck GMS stable.
The upcoming season will mark the first time in GMS team history that the organization has fielded four trucks in a full-time capacity.
They campaigned four trucks on a part-time basis during the 2016 season, fielding the Nos. 21, 23 and 33 entries full-time as well as the No. 24 as an all-star entry for various drivers throughout the season.
GMS put four trucks on track for the opening three races of the 2017 season at Daytona Int’l Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway and Martinsville Speedway — actually picking up the pole and race win with Chase Elliott at Martinsville in April — before shelving the No. 23 Chevrolet for the balance of the year.
The 2018 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season kicks off Feb. 16 at Daytona Int’l Speedway.
