BIRCH RUN, Mich. – A sneaky-fast lap by supermodified ace Kyle Edwards gave him his first-career Abe’s Auto Parts Fast Time Award with the Must See Racing Sprint Car Series Friday evening at Birch Run Speedway.

Edwards posted a time of 12.980 seconds (110.940 mph) in his No. 11 Edwards Mobile Mower Repair-Diablo to lead a 17-car field at the four-tenths-mile oval.

For Edwards, the final result was a bit of a surprise, but the overall speed wasn’t.

“I knew we had a fast car; I just thought we might get jumped at the end,” said Edwards, who had to sweat out six more cars before claiming the top qualifying honors.

“The first lap was really good, but the second lap we were really loose. … I’m just happy to be standing here talking to you right now. This is pretty cool to do this with the caliber of cars that are here tonight.”

Derek Snyder landed second on the board in his No. 22 RS Biomedical/Vertech Motorsports machine, with a lap of 12.997 seconds (110.795 mph), his top qualifying effort of the season and in his Must See Racing career.

The top-two were the only ones to crack the 110 mile per hour barrier.

Second practice leader Ryan Gillenwater was third-quick overall (13.132/109.656), followed by overall practice pacesetter Jason Blonde and Charlie Schultz.

Two-time defending series champion Jimmy McCune was sixth, with Doug Dietsch, Jacob Wilson, Anthony McCune and Christian Koehler completing the top 10.

With an invert roll of 10, Koehler and McCune will make up the front row for the 30-lap American Racer Invitational that serves as the nightcap to All Star Classic Night at Birch Run Speedway.
