NEWTON, Iowa — Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour regular and South Dakota sprint car racer Justin Henderson has parted ways with BDS Motorsports.
The split, effective immediately, was for “personal reasons” according to driver and team, with Henderson citing in a statement on Facebook the need for time to focus on his family and growing business.
“I want to thank BDS Motorsports for everything they have done the past four years, both professionally and personally,” Henderson said in a statement via Facebook. “Bryan and Dave Sundby have always done their best to give me every opportunity to win, and have always treated us like family.”
“BDS Motorsports knows that surrounding yourself with good people is important in order to be successful. We wish the team continued success for the remainder of this season and seasons to come.”
Henderson and BDS Motorsports, owned by Bryan and Dave Sundby, had been chasing the ASCS national championship this season, having scored a best finish of second at Texas’ Devil’s Bowl Speedway in March and sitting seventh in points at the conclusion of Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek.
The team said in a statement that they plan to continue on the ASCS National Tour, with a driver announcement coming in the near future, and that they will still compete at both the 360 Knoxville Nationals and 5-Hour Energy 410 Knoxville Nationals later this summer.
“BDS Motorsports would like to say thank you to Justin [and his family] for four wonderful years together, achieving many of the goals we had all set,” the team said. “All of us at BDS wish them the best. We take great pride in being a family race team and will miss them all greatly.”
“We would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to send us a message regarding our driver search for the remainder of the season,” the statement continued. “The team is working diligently to keep everything on track so that we can head out West as planned.”
