PENSACOLA, Fla. – Doug Moff will start from the pole in Friday night’s 75-lap Modifieds of Mayhem feature run as part of Snowball Derby week at Five Flags Speedway.

Moff turned the quickest lap of 17.751 seconds (101.403 mph) with his No. 46 entry, carrying sponsorship from 84 Lumber on the back quarter panel of the race car.

The 51-year-old Ft. Myers, Fla., native has been a regular at New Smyrna Speedway’s World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing over the past several years, and is also a former champion of the old FASCAR Goodyear Challenge Series.

Moff will seek his first Snowball Derby week modified feature victory on Friday night.

Defending race winner Augie Grill qualified second-fastest in his familiar No. 112 with a time of 17.805 seconds (101.095 mph).

Last year, Grill became the first driver in history to win in three different divisions during Snowball Derby week. He has won at the Derby in super late models, pro late models and modifieds during his career.

Three-time Derby modified winner Donnie Hamrac, Kyle Purvis and Parker Pugh completed the top five, followed by Josh Ware, Jim Walls, Derrick Griffin, Cody Stickler and Jason Morman.

The only incident in qualifying came when Johnny Walker got loose exiting turn four and pounded the frontstretch wall with his No. 72. Walker was unhurt, but his car was taken off on the hook.

The Modifieds of Mayhem 75 is scheduled for a 9 p.m. CT start time Friday night.
