NEW PHILIDELPHIA, Ohio — Ryan Gillenwater stalled the McCune Express, if only briefly, during final practice for the Must See Racing Sprint Car Series’ inaugural appearance at Midvale Speedway on Saturday.

Gillenwater shot to the top of the board in advance of Abe’s Auto Parts Time Trials, setting the fastest lap of the day so far in his No. 45 Fifth Street Auto Care/Royal Purple sprinter, at a clip of 12.751 seconds (84.699 mph).

First practice leader Jimmy McCune dipped to second in the final round, topping out at 12.819 seconds (84.250 mph) in the No. 88 Abe’s Auto Parts & Sales/B&B Machinery Movers/Rev-X Oil mount.

Brian Gerster was third-quick in the No. 50m RAM Engineering/Dick Myers Racing machine, posting his best lap of 12.897 seconds (83.740 mph) as he seeks his series-leading 24th career fast time in qualifying later on.

Two more McCune Motorsports entries rounded out the Fast Five, piloted by 2015 series Rookie of the Year Anthony McCune and South African native Jacques Roos.

All of the top five cars on the speed charts were underneath the 13-second barrier, but well off of Trent Stephens’ all-time Midvale track record of 11.865 seconds (91.024 mph) set in MSA supermodified action in August of 2013.

Jeff Bloom, Bronzie Lawson IV, Charlie Schultz, Joe Speakman and Tom Jewell closed out the top 10.

Abe’s Auto Parts Time Trials for the Must See Racing Sprint Car Series are slated to roll off at 5:30 p.m.
