David Byrne led the way in practice for the Must See Racing Sprint Car Series at Anderson Speedway on Wednesday afternoon, setting up a potential big night for his Wisconsin-based team in the Ivy Tech 60 presented by Sam Pierce Chevrolet.

Byrne went out in the second round of hot laps and shot the best lap of the week for winged sprint cars to date, posting a time of 10.841 seconds (83.018 mph) at the wheel of his No. 40 Bytec Incorporated/Truck Country/Steele Performance sprinter.

Reigning series champion Jimmy McCune was not far behind, also going quickest in the second session in his No. 88 B&B Machinery Movers/Abe’s Auto Parts & Sales entry. McCune, the three-time defending Must See Racing winner at Anderson, toured the high-banked quarter-mile in 10.877 seconds (82.743 mph) as he seeks his fourth-straight win at the historic track.

Daleville, Indiana native and Hoosier favorite Aaron Pierce was third-fastest, setting his best lap of 10.891 seconds (82.637 mph) in the first round of hot laps.

2013 event winner Jacob Wilson (10.931/82.335) and National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Jeff Bloom (11.110/81.008) rounded out the top five on the speed charts.

Qualifying for the Ivy Tech 60 presented by Sam Pierce Chevrolet, round five of the 2016 Must See Racing Sprint Car Series season, is slated to roll off at 6 p.m. ET.
