OVID, Mich. – Defending champion Jimmy McCune led the way in Saturday’s opening practice for the Must See Racing Sprint Car Series presented by Engine Pro at Owosso Speedway.

McCune topped the boards after going out in the third and final group, posting a quick lap of 13.518 seconds (99.867 mph) around the three-eighths mile oval in advance of the Must See Racing Fast 40.

His nearest rival was the driver he beat in the series’ most recent trip to Owosso on July 2, Michigan’s Jason Blonde. The seven-time Auto Value Super Sprints champion posted a best time of 13.656 seconds (98.858 mph) in the Bingham Farms No. 42 car.

Ryan Gillenwater was third, the fastest driver from session one after a clip of 13.875 seconds (97.297 mph). Ohio’s Jerry Caryer and former MSR supermodified champion Kyle Edwards rounded out the top five.

Notables outside the top five included former NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Bobby Santos III (seventh) and Madison Int’l Speedway runner-up Jason Cox (ninth)

Canadian star Ryan Litt did not make any laps in the first round of practice, citing a brake line issue on his No. 07 BS&B Radiator entry.
