ROSSBURG, Ohio — Defending Eldora Dirt Derby fast qualifier Caleb Holman found his way back to the top of the speed charts on Tuesday night, leading the way in final practice for the midsummer special at Eldora Speedway.

Holman toured the half-mile dirt oval, owned by retired three-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion Tony Stewart, in 19.990 seconds (90.045 mph) in the No. 75 Food Country USA/Lopez Wealth Management Chevrolet.

The former CARS Pro Cup Series champion was the only driver to crack the 90 mph barrier and is in search of his first-career Truck Series victory.

2015 event winner Christopher Bell backed up his solid first practice performance with an equally-strong run in final practice, moving from third to second-fastest (20.177/89.211) in his No. 4 Toyota Tundra for Kyle Busch Motorsports.

Despite being nearly two-tenths of a second off of Holman’s quick lap, Bell said he was excited about his team’s race pace.

“We’re really good,” Bell said on pit road after practice had concluded. “I’m optimistic; obviously the track changes a lot, but we’re going to be pretty solid, I think. We’ll just have to see what tomorrow brings.”

Ty Dillon landed third (20.187/89.166) in the No. 99 K&L Ready Mix Chevrolet for MDM Motorsports, followed by Matt Crafton and John Hunter Nemechek.

Johnny Sauter was sixth, while Chase Briscoe was seventh-fastest despite a wild incident with 22 minutes to go in the session that saw him jump the cushion in Turns 3 and 4, ride the wall and nearly flip before landing on all four wheels and coming to a halt.

Briscoe was uninjured in the incident, and will go to a backup truck for Wednesday’s activities.

Ben Rhodes, Kaz Grala and Bobby Pierce completed the top-10.

Two-lap time trials for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Eldora Speedway kick off at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
