CONCORD, N.C. — After having a truck that was contending for a top-10 finish in the closing stages of Friday night’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200, Justin Haley faded to 17th in the final rundown.
The Winimac, Indiana young gun’s night unfortunately didn’t get any better after the conclusion of the race, as NASCAR announced that Haley’s No. 24 Levine Children’s Hospital Chevrolet failed post-race height measurements.
Height infractions are classified as an L1-penalty in the NASCAR Rule Book, carrying a potential deduction of 10-40 driver and owner points, a fine of $5,000-$20,000 and a 1-2 race suspension for the crew chief in question.
When Kyle Busch’s race-winning NASCAR XFINITY Series car failed similar checks at Atlanta Motor Speedway in March, the No. 18 team was docked 10 owner points and crew chief Scott Graves received a one-race suspension and $10,000 fine.
Any potential penalties to the No. 24 GMS Racing team will be announced mid-week.
Haley restarted on row six for the final, three-lap dash to the finish on Friday night, but was caught in a mad scramble during the closing sprint and shuffled out of contention to better his ninth-place effort from last week in Kansas.
After missing the first two races of the season due to age restrictions, Haley now has back-to-back lead lap finishes and improved to 18th in the provisional championship standings leaving Charlotte.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returns to action June 2 at Dover Int’l Speedway.
