“I just can’t believe I’m standing in victory lane at Eldora, man,” Briscoe added. “It’s just so special to be here. As a dirt sprint car driver growing up … this place was our Daytona (Int’l Speedway). To finally put my name on the list of winners here is something I can’t even put into words.”
Briscoe also offered an apology to Enfinger for getting into his door on the final lap.
“I need to apologize to the No. 98 guys,” he noted. “They are running for a championship and he’s my teammate. I wasn’t going to wear him out; I wasn’t going to just wreck him for the win … but we rubbed and I definitely let it slide all the way to the wall there at the end.
“I’m sorry to him for that. That’s not how I race … but this is Eldora. Sometimes you do what you have to do on that last lap to get the job done and I’m so thankful to be here right now.”
Enfinger came up a heartbreaking second, but still had plenty of reasons to smile after the race from the entertaining battle that he and his teammate put on.
“I felt like we had the position on him and we were pretty good right there, but he did use me up,” Enfinger said. “We were both going for it. He didn’t do anything dirty. It’s just the last lap of a really, really big race.
“I really wished we could have gotten the win. I’m glad that ThorSport got the win and that was one heck of a finish, but I wish it was this No. 98 team over in victory lane. Man, that close … by a bumper. It’s a shame, a real heartbreaker, but I can’t say I wouldn’t have done something similar in his shoes.”
Stewart Friesen completed the podium, rallying from a lap 28 spin to score his second straight top-three finish in the Eldora Dirt Derby, following his runner-up effort last summer.
Defending race winner Matt Crafton was fourth and Brett Moffitt finished fifth.
Seavey faded to eighth on the overtime restart, but still carried a smile after contending for a win in his Truck Series debut.
“I just didn’t need those cautions,” said Seavey. “I thought we had a pretty good lead and we were getting through lap traffic pretty good, but that’s just how racing goes. You never know what’s going to happen at the end.
“We got eaten up after those restarts and Chase (Briscoe) just beat me on the start. I spun the tires a little bit and everybody went by me after that,” Seavey noted. “Overall though, this was an awesome race. I think we showed that we could run with these guys and I’m so proud of that.”
Former DIRTcar Nationals UMP Modified champion Nick Hoffman finished 10th for the Mittler Brothers in his first Truck Series appearance since 2011.
Wednesday night’s race featured nine cautions for 41 laps and seven lead changes among five drivers.
