LAS VEGAS, NV– Timothy Peters has claimed his first Keystone Light Pole award of the 2016 Camping World Truck Series season before the DC Solar 350 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Horse Racing driver and Chase contender landed his first pole since Phoenix in 2015. Peters who ran a time of 30.690 (175.953 mph) in his No.17 RHR Toyota thinks this might be the launching point the team needs.
“I don’t want to put the car before the horse, that’s for sure.” Peters said. “We knew starting position was going to be critical, its testament to (crew chief) Shane (Huffman) and all these guys at Red Horse Racing. It just a great team effort.”
“There hasn’t been a big balance shift when the lights come on. We got it handling good during this mornings in first practice because we felt like it was going to be similar conditions or close to tonight. I think we have a good shot.”
In the two round single truck qualifying format, the 2013 race winner Peters was able to hold off, fellow Chase contender Matt Crafton 39.753 (175.661 mph) and Non-chaser Cole Custer 30.753 (175.593 mph).
Slotting in the fourth and fifth positions were a pair of Chevrolet’s as Ben Kennedy (30.776/175.461 mph) and Spencer Gallagher (30.791/175.376 mph).
Other notable names include, Daniel Hemric who is in desperate need of a disaster free race following New Hampshire will start in the sixth. Current series points leader, William Byron will start tenth.
While Johnny Sauter (14th) and John Hunter Nemechek (15th) and Christopher Bell (18th) will have their work cut out as they are the lowest qualifying Chase contenders in the field.
The start time for the DC Solar 350 is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET with live coverage on Fox Sports 1, the Motor Racing Network and Sirius XM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
