Go fast? Matt Janisch has that one checked off his Rumble in Fort Wayne to-do list.

Janisch smashed the non-winged 600cc dirt midget track record in Friday night time trials at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, setting a lightning-fast clip of 8.095 seconds around the one-sixth mile concrete oval to set quick time in the class.

The lap breaks the former record of 8.328 seconds set by Blane Culp in the class’s inaugural apperance at the Rumble a year ago.

Two-time winged opening night winner Erick Rudolph clocked in second-fast in his non-winged mount, but his lap of 8.378 seconds was well off of Janisch’s blistering lap.

Clay Sanders timed in third-quick with a lap of 8.422 seconds, with Mike Fedorcak (8.444) and defending Rumble National Midget winner Russ Gamester (8.484) rounding out the fast five.

Positions 6-10 were filled by Jason Ormsby, Culp, Larry Joe Sroufe, Richard Smith and and POWRi National Midget regular Daniel Robinson.
