CONCORD, N.C.– Kevin Harvick’s hunt for a fourth victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway began well on Thursday.

Harvick’s Busch Hunting Chevrolet posted the top time in the first practice session (27.870 seconds, 193.757 mph) for Saturday night’s Bank of America 500 (7 p.m. ET, NBC, PRN, SiriusXM).

The Bakersfield, California native has a history of success at Charlotte, most recently winning the 2014 edition of this event. In addition to his three wins at the track, he has seven top-five finishes and 14 top-ten finishes over the course of his career.

Harvick was one of six Chevrolets in the top 10 and the only driver to run faster than 193 mph. Alex Bowman, filling in for Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the No. 88 Axalta Chevrolet, was second fastest, followed by Coca-Cola 600 champion Martin Truex Jr. in his No. 78 Furniture Row Toyota. Denny Hamlin, also in a Toyota, was fourth, and Kyle Larson rounded out the top five.

Larson was one of three non-chase drivers to crack the top 10 (along with A.J. Allmendinger and Ryan Newman), and all of the Joe Gibbs Racing cars put times on the board in the top 14 positions. Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth rounded out JGR’s efforts with the ninth and 14th fastest times of the session respectively.

Ford was shut out of the top 10 entirely, with the fastest time from the Blue Oval camp coming from Joey Logano. The defending Bank of America 500 champion was 11th quickest (28.135 seconds, 191.932 mph). Chase Elliott was the slowest of the drivers remaining in the Chase, running the 18th fastest time (28.208 seconds, 191.435 mph).

Coors Light Pole Qualifying will begin at 7:20 p.m. ET tonight, and can be seen on NBCSN and the NBC Sports app.
