Barley missing out on the final round of qualifying by .001 of a second, Clint Bowyer will start 13th in his HAAS- Automation Ford Fusion, posting a qualifying effort of (28.034/192.623 mph).
Notables who were also knocked out in round two include, four-time LVMS winner Jimmie Johnson (16th), 2017 Daytona 500 winner Kurt Busch (17th), Dale Earnhardt Jr (18th) and last week’s pole sitter, Kevin Harvick (19th).
At the end of the first round, JTG-Daugherty teammates of A.J. Allmendinger and Chris Buscher dueled for the 24th and final transfer spot. Allmendinger barely edged his younger counterpart to advance into round 2.
Buscher will start 25th in his No.37 Natural Light Chevrolet.
Other notables failing to make it out of the first round in qualifying included, Danica Patrick (28th), Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (29th) and David Ragan (32nd).
With only 39 entries this weekend, all drivers made the field for Sunday’s race.
The next on track activity ahead for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series teams, will be a 55 minute second practice session at noon ET on Saturday (FS1, PRN, SiriusXM).
