February 16, 2014 – staff report by Managing Editor Jacob Seelman – speed51.com photo – NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Steven Wallace drove a fast car to a long-overdue late model victory during night two of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing on Saturday night at New Smyrna Speedway.
Wallace, son of 1989 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Rusty Wallace, held off night one winner Stephen Nasse for the victory in the super late model division.
The win was Wallace’s first late model triumph since he scored a win in 2011 with the UARA-STARS tour at Concord Speedway, ending a two-and-a-half year drought.
Ross Kenseth crossed the finish line third, followed by Matt Tifft and Kyle Benjamin rounding out the top five.
Other class winners Saturday at New Smyrna included Brandon Johnson (pro late models), Ron Silk (tour-type modifieds), Todd Stone (FL modifieds) and Michael Burns (pro trucks).
With two nights of the 48th Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing in the books, Wallace and Nasse are unofficially tied for the World Series Super Late Model division points lead. Johnson holds the unofficial lead in Pro Late Model points, with Silk, Burns and Stone each leading their respective classes atop the points sheets.
