After three seasons, a dozen World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victories and (soon-to-be) three straight top 10 finishes in the season-long title fight, veteran Paul McMahan and CJB Motorsports will be going down separate paths for the 2016 season.
McMahan announced through his Facebook page on Thursday that he would be leaving the team following the Bad Boy Buggies World of Outlaws World Finals, Nov. 6-7 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
“This year has not been what I myself as a driver had hoped for,” McMahan said in the statement. “There are times in this sport that it just better for all involved to get a fresh start. I want to thank Chad and Jenn Clemens for the opportunity to drive their No. 51 car for a little over three years. I also want to thank Barry Jackson for his hard work as the crew chief and everyone of our crew members that were a big part of our team.”
The 44-year-old Elk Grove, Calif. native is a 26-time World of Outlaws feature winner (17th all-time) and scored back-to-back third place results in the WoO points standings in 2013 and 2014. He currently sits seventh in the points heading into the final two A-features of the year at Charlotte next weekend, on the strength of three victories, 27 top fives, 49 top 10s and six fast qualifying awards in 2015.
McMahan’s most recent WoO score came on Oct. 16 at Lawrenceburg Speedway, where he held off Shane Stewart to claim top honors and surpass legend Bobby Allen on the all-time winners list.
CJB Motorsports announced in August that they will be fielding a car for three-time WoO champion Sammy Swindell in 40-50 races next year, in a partnership with Tod Quiring and his Mainstream Holdings brand.
