May 3, 2014 — report by USCS Announcer Jacob Seelman for Speed77 Radio, Race Chaser Online and USCS Racing — Chris Seelman photo — MARYVILLE, TN — After last night’s opening lap crash during the United Sprint Car Series (USCS) Outlaw Thunder Tour filtercharged by K&N main event at 411 Motor Speedway, the USCS has a medical update on two of its’ drivers injured in the crash, Ray Bugg and Morgan Turpen.

Bugg, the 76-year-old sprint car veteran from Iuka, Mississippi, was transported to the University of Tennessee medical center following the multi-car melee after coming to a stop at the exit of turn number 4. Bugg’s throttle hung in the crash and he was complaining of neck pain after the crash. After evaluation, Bugg is awake, alert and in good spirits at the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Morgan Turpen, the female sprint car veteran out of Oakland, Tennessee, was the first car to be involved in the melee, cartwheeling up onto the concrete wall in turn 3 and coming to rest between turns 3 and 4. She was extricated from her car complaining of knee pain and a sore neck, but returned to the race track to celebrate with her teammate Terry Gray after he won the feature event.

Turpen then paid a visit to the hospital as a personal precaution after the night’s racing action was over to get checked out, but she has returned to the race track and will race tonight at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee.
