ATWOOD, TN – Race report by Managing Editor Jacob Seelman for Race Chaser Online and USCS Racing – One Dirt photo — Saturday night at Clayhill Motorsports, the Derek Hagar and Tim Crawley Show in United Sprint Car Series filtercharged by K&N competition continued.

Hagar, the defending USCS champion from Marion, Arkansas, started seventh but quickly marched forward, snatching the lead from K&N pole-sitter Morgan Turpen on lap 5 of the 30-lap “Clayhill Clash” A-main and never looking back from there en route to www.rockauto.com Victory Lane. Hagar held off 2012 champion Crawley for his seventh USCS victory of the season and first since mid-June at East Alabama Motor Speedway in the annual Randy Helton Memorial.

The victory was Hagar’s 28th career USCS feature win, which is fourth on the all-time list behind only Tim Crawley, Terry Gray and Kenny Adams.

The race featured three lead changes in the opening five laps, with Terry Gray snatching the lead from teammate and pole-sitter Turpen on the opening lap before Turpen regained the top spot one lap later. After Gray flipped and fell out of the race on lap 4, Hagar surged from third to first to grab the lead on the restart and from there, the die was cast.

Crawley, from Benton, Arkansas, got by Turpen near the mid-point of the race and chased Hagar to the finish line in second, and Marshall Skinner, also a Marion native, rounded out the podium in third. Turpen, from Cordova, Tennessee came home in fourth and California, Missouri’s Tyler Blank completed the top five.

Hernando, Mississippi top gun Jerod Roller finished in sixth and West Memphis veteran A.G. Rains crossed the checkered flag in seventh. Millington, Tennessee young gun Dalton Davis had a solid night to come home eighth and Ernie Ainsworth, out of Bartlett, Tennessee ended the night in ninth. Fellow Tennessean Justin Webb, from Drummonds completed the top ten.

Terry Gray kicked off the evening’s racing action by winning the Hoosier Tire Speed Dash, and followed that up with a win in the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat. Morgan Turpen rolled to the victory in the Butlerbuilt Second Heat, and A.G. Rains netted the Schoenfeld Headers Third Heat win.

Tim Crawley was the provisional polesitter after scoring the most passing points in heat race action, but after a four came up in the K&N Inversion Draw, Morgan Turpen received the K&N Filters Pole Award.  Hagar passed the most cars in the A-main (six) to grab the Wilwood Disc Brakes Hard Charger Award.

The United Sprint Car Series filtercharged by K&N continues their 2014 schedule on Saturday, August 23rd with the rescheduled running of the Dixie Sprint Car Nationals at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia.
