HANOVER, Pa. — In a streak that almost appears untouchable at the current time, Kyle Larson has scored victories in his last four winged sprint car races, stretching over a three-week period.
And, almost appropriately, he’ll look to move the needle one more notch on Monday night, as he chases his fifth-consecutive sprint car win at Lincoln Speedway during round four of Pennsylvania Speedweek.
A winning run that began on June 13 at Nebraska’s Eagle Raceway saw Larson jump into a second No. 17 car for Stenhouse Jr.-Wood Racing, driving for friend and fellow World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series owner Ricky Stenhouse Jr. at the third-mile dirt oval.
The result was Larson’s first World of Outlaws win since 2013 and the fifth of his career.
Larson later added back-to-back wins with Tony Stewart’s Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions during Ohio Sprint Speedweek, driving to victory at Wayne County Speedway on June 19 and Sharon Speedway on June 20.
The All Star wins pushed his career total with that series to six, with the entire half-dozen coming during Ohio Sprint Speedweek, in an odd twist.
Factoring in Larson’s win at Path Valley Speedway on Sunday night, where he led the final 34 laps of the 40-lap main event after passing Brock Zearfoss, the Elk Grove, Calif. native has four-in-a-row and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.
Of note, Larson’s Path Valley win was his first-ever triumph against the ‘PA Posse’ in Central Pennsylvania.
“It’s always tough when you come to PA,” Larson said after winning Sunday night. “To get a win here has been on my bucket list. I struggled here in 2012 and 2013 when I came out here, so it’s cool to get a win on our first night of Speedweek. Hopefully we get some more. We have three more nights to get some wins.”
Larson’s most recent three wins in a sprint car have come at the wheel of long-time car owner Paul Silva’s No. 57.
In addition to his sprint car prowess, Larson has showed off his skills on the NASCAR side as well this season, having won two Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races, three Cup pole positions and three NASCAR XFINITY Series races this year for car owner Chip Ganassi.
His win at Michigan Int’l Speedway on June 18 came in the midst of his sprint car winning streak, as did consecutive poles at Michigan and Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway.
Larson currently leads the regular season Cup standings, holding an 18-point buffer over chief rival Martin Truex Jr.
Pennsylvania Speedweek continues Monday night at Lincoln Speedway, having had three different winners in the first three races in Freddie Rahmer (Williams Grove), Danny Dietrich (Lincoln) and Larson.
The series then heads to Grandview Speedway Tuesday night, where Kasey Kahne is anticipated to join the field, and runs at Maryland’s Hagerstown Speedway on Wednesday night.
Following Larson’s departure for Kentucky Speedway to return to his NASCAR duties, the series runs through July 9, with races at Port Royal Speedway on Thursday, Williams Grove on Friday, a Saturday return to Port Royal and the Sunday finale at Selinsgrove Speedway.
