March 17, 2014 — Blog by Managing Editor Jacob Seelman — Stuart Povick photo — Top o’ the mornin’, Race Chasers! It’s St. Patrick’s Day and that gives us some great (and green) conversation today!

This day is about luck and reward in Irish lore, and I’d say the top of the lucky list has to go to Carl Edwards.

Edwards found the pot of gold, or yellow, at the end of a shadowy rainbow last night at Bristol when the flagman accidentally leaned on the override switch in the flag stand and flipped the caution lights on, leading to a race-ending yellow flag when Mother Nature squelched any hope of a green-white-checkered finish.

Have you ever?

I personally haven’t, but that right there is what you call sheer, dumb luck. I guarantee you Edwards wasn’t complaining though!

This day is also traditionally about the color green, and if you want to talk about a green car that made some waves this weekend, look no closer than the Monster Energy No. 54 of Kyle Busch.

Busch was nothing short of magical during Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race, be it because of a leprechaun in his pocket or his sheer mastery of Bristol Motor Speedway. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver notched his 16th career NASCAR National Series triumph at Bristol (5 Cup, 7 Nationwide and 4 Truck), a sanction record for a driver as far as wins at a single race track.

Move over, DW. The new King of Bristol is in town, and his name is Kyle Busch.

Yes, Darrell won seven in a row in the Cup Series from 1981-1984, but Kyle Busch has won not only six of his last eight NNS races at Bristol, he also won four out of five from 2009-2011 in the Cup Series and four of the last six in the Truck Series, including three straight from 2008-2010.

I’d say he’s pretty good at Bristol.

Talking about green, it also lets me bring up some of the great green paint schemes that have graced the track over the years. Who can forget Steve Kinser’s Quaker State number 11 that drove to countless World of Outlaws Sprint Car victories over the years, or the emerald and yellow Lotus colors that competed for many years at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway? Or in the modern day, who can’t mention green and not bring up the aforementioned Monster car of Kyle Busch or the Mountain Dew No. 88 of perennial fan favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr.?

There have been a lot of splashes of green that have turned left (and sometimes right too) on the race track over the years, and I’m curious to hear your thoughts, RaceChaser Nation! What is your favorite green scheme that has hit the track over the years, or, if you want to look at the four-leaf clover side of things, your favorite “lucky moment” that a driver has had over the years?

Leave us a comment in the section below, but keep it family-friendly please!

And, before I go, I hope all you race fans out there are pinch-proof this afternoon! If you’re not wearing green somehow, you ought to be! The NASCAR Superstore even has officially-licensed four-leaf clover shirts to celebrate Carl Edwards’ Bristol win in case you might be lacking!

So on a rainy day here on the east coast, kick back with some Irish spirit and if you’re looking for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, you’ll find it tonight at 7 PM Eastern on Speed77 Radio powered by Race Chaser Online in the form of a brand-new episode of Motorsports Madness!

Here’s to you, RaceChaser Nation! A happy and speedy St. Patty’s Day to you all!
