February 26, 2014 — Blog by Managing Editor Jacob Seelman — It’s been 296 days, just barely over ten months, and now, 1,000 stories since the launch of Race Chaser Online on May 6th of 2013, a time period that the cast and crew here have spent reporting, interviewing, watching, and analyzing motorsports and the people involved in the industry.

I can’t believe how far we’ve come.

Granted, I haven’t been involved in the project since Day One, but since I came on with the team in June of last year to first cover the Summer Shootout at Charlotte Motor Speedway, this fledgling little hatchling has found its wings and learned to fly.

What started as a motorsports news website to offer unique takes on NASCAR and local short track racing across the country has evolved into a multimedia conglomeration encompassing our twice-a-week podcast shows, weekly features and driver profiles from every facet of the motorsports world, coverage from across the globe on IndyCar, Formula One, V8 Supercars, NASCAR, Sprint cars, Supermodifieds, Midgets, Late Models, Sports Cars, local short track racing, NHRA drag racing, AMA Supercross and much much more.

Speed77 Radio has evolved and flourished under the RaceChaser umbrella over the past few months and become bigger than I ever pictured it could ever be, with not only the podcast shows but on-site coverage of motorsports events throughout the calendar year, featured interviews with drivers from all across the motorsports world, and a new push for 2014 that has me personally extremely excited about the possibilities.

I’ve watched this site grow into coverage of series that I never dreamed I would have the opportunity or the privilege to look into over the course of my early journalism career. But more importantly, I’ve watched myself grow as a journalist, a writer, a speaker and a person through my work with Race Chaser over the past nine months. I’ve not just learned writing tricks or quick fixes, but I’ve learned life lessons and how to handle myself professionally over the course of this venture, all of which has made me a better person and I could not be more grateful.

This entire project would not have been possible without and has Tom Baker to thank for where it is today. Race Chaser’s Senior Editor took a suggestion from motorsports icon Humpy Wheeler on building a motorsports news site as opposed to further expanding his short track radio show and has turned it into something much bigger than any of us who came onto the project could have dreamed. When we agreed to take part in this venture, none of us ever thought it would expand as quickly or be able to reach as many places as it has, and when you ask him, Tom will tell you that he never pictured Race Chaser being at the level that it is this quickly. Using the knowledge he gained from his first motorsports news site, Inside Groove, in the early 2000s, Baker has created a vision for Race Chaser as a hub for unique and diverse motorsports content from around the globe. Race Chaser has provided him a second chance to return to his journalistic roots.

Thinking about it myself, I think Race Chaser will easily surpass its predecessor when the story is written to conclusion. Truly, the whole growth process and building blocks are stunning to look back on at this stage of the game.

All of us here at Race Chaser; myself, James Pike, Joel Sebastianelli, Kyle Souza, Steven Ovens, Evan Beaulieu, Nick Graziano, our fantastic supporters from Stock Car Steel and Aluminum and SRI Supplies and their head Chase Forbes; we couldn’t have imagined that less than a year later, what started as a grand idea would be so much more. I’m thankful and humbled every hour of every day at where this site is and where it continues to push towards.

As we approach our one-year anniversary on May 6th, we continue full-bore into a new season, our first full season of covering every aspect of the motorsports world from January to December. Everyone at Race Chaser Online is excited and ready to take our coverage further into the new year and whether you’re here in the States or somewhere else across the globe, we hope you’ll come along for the ride!
