STATESVILLE, N.C. – Ryan Millington doubled down over the weekend at Hickory Motor Speedway, sweeping the track’s twin 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car features for his second and third wins at HMS this season.

Millington led every lap of the first twin, then started from pole and lost the lead briefly before pacing the final 35 laps of the second feature to complete the double-play on Sam’s Club Night at the Races.

“We had a really good car on Saturday night,” said Millington after leading a combined 75 of 80 laps. “We made a few changes to what we were doing on it, just like we have recently with our mini outlaw kart, and it really paid off. Qualified second for the first race and got the lead right off the bat, so that was cool to lead the whole thing and never have to look back.”

“The second race was fun for us. We qualified on the pole, and stayed right there for the whole race … just had to work for a few laps to get the lead early, but it all worked out. I just waited for the 87 (Hayden Woods) to fall back a little bit and capitalize on a little mistake he made. All in all, this was a really good night for us as a team and it’s really pumped us up going into the next couple of weeks.”

The twin P1 results allowed Millington to cut into Dexter Canipe Jr.’s championship lead, with just 42 points separating the pair heading into the final two months of points racing at the .363-mile oval.

Millington will chase his second dirt victory of the season and third-consecutive podium finish on Wednesday night in an SKE Chassis mini outlaw kart at Millbridge Speedway, before heading to Southern National Motorsports Park on Saturday, Aug. 6 for his first racing start in an asphalt super late model.
