MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Team Penske announced via their official Twitter account on Wednesday that Canadian Alex Tagliani will be the pilot of the team’s No. 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang at Road America on Aug. 27.
Tagliani, 43, will return to Team Penske for the second time in three years at the 4.048-mile Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin road course, after winning the pole there in the No. 22 Ford during his most recent series appearance in 2014.
In his lone NASCAR start at Mid-Ohio, the Quebec native and full-time competitor in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series came home second after leading 19 of 53 laps.
Tagliani has a combined seven XFINITY starts in total since his 2009 debut, with four top five finishes and three poles, but is still looking for his first-career series win.
Tagliani’s season north of the border, in the NPS ranks, has showcased unparalleled consistency. Driving for team owner Colin Livingston, he has notched three wins, five top-fives and six top 10s, ranking third in points despite missing the season-opener in May due to making his eighth-career start in the Indianapolis 500.
