CONCORD, N.C. — Report by Race Chaser Online Managing Editor Jacob Seelman — NASCAR photo —

Rain, rain, go away.

After a day plagued by consistent drizzle from 10 a.m. onwards, NASCAR and Charlotte Motor Speedway officials have postponed Saturday night’s scheduled Bank of America 500 to Sunday afternoon (12:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN, PRN, SiriusXM).

The event — the fourth race of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup and the first race of the Contender Round — was slated for a 7:16 p.m. ET green flag time, but a rotating system kept weather hovering over the track all afternoon long and prevented any hope of track drying to begin in an effort to race late Saturday night. It is the seventh Sprint Cup event of 2015 affected by or postponed due to weather.

According to the National Weather Service, the forecast for Sunday afternoon is much improved — with no chance of rain, partly sunny skies and a high temperature near 72 degrees.

Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch earned the top two starting positions for the event, and will lead the field to green when the race gets underway.

12 drivers remain in contention for the 2015 Sprint Cup championship:  Kenseth, Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards, Martin Truex Jr., Kurt Busch, Jeff Gordon, Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busch, Ryan Newman, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and defending series champion Kevin Harvick.
