KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Terry Senneker Jr. made Kalamazoo Speedway his personal playground again on Wednesday night, scoring his fifth career win in the Kalamazoo Klash for outlaw super late models at the three-eighths-mile oval.

Senneker is the first driver in event history to win five Klash features, however, the veteran out of Wayland, Mich. had to work for the spoils of the 125-lap race.

After taking the track’s “Shotgun Challenge” to start last in hopes of a $2,000 bonus, Senneker fought his way to the race lead and engaged in a race-long duel with young gun Tyler Roahrig.

Following a caution with 30 laps to go, Roahrig outgunned Senneker from the outside lane on a restart, taking command and trying to run off to his first-career Klash victory. But another caution flag with 14 laps to go bunched the field back up and allowed Senneker a second shot to regain his momentum on the bottom.

This time he got it right, passing Roahrig back for the lead on the restart before another caution set up a last-gasp dash to the finish line. The ensuing green flag was of no consequence, however, as Senneker streaked away to a 2.247-second margin of victory in the end.

“We really worked hard on the car for this race and it paid off,” Senneker said. “This is a special one for me. You always want a good car, but you want to work for (the win) becuase that’s what everyone comes here to do. Thankfully we were able to get the job done tonight.”

Roahrig was forced to settle for second, followed by Brandon Lyons, Brian Bergakker and Andy Bozell.

Chad Finley, Mike Brooks, Jack Landis, Scott Hantz, Lee VanDyk rounded out the top 10.

Two-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion Matt Crafton made the show on a promoter’s option provisional and came home 16th.
