JACKSONVILLE, Ill. — Report by Race Chaser Online Managing Editor Jacob Seelman — MOWA photo —

Five-time defending Neal Tire MOWA Sprint Car Series champion Jerrod Hull raced from the outside pole into victory lane Friday night at Jacksonville Speedway, becoming the third different winner in as many races to kick off the series’ 2016 season.

Hull crossed the line 0.864 seconds ahead of Ian Madsen in a feature that took just over 12 minutes to complete around the fast quarter-mile bullring. The Sikeston, Missouri native also set quick time earlier in the night to lead the 31-car field, with a lap of 10.718 seconds (83.971 mph).

Veteran Midwest racer Joe B. Miller came home third ahead of Carson Macedo and A.J. Bruns, who rounded out the top five.

The first two season winners — Ryan Bunton and Parker Price Miller — finished ninth and 17th, respectively.

The Neal Tire MOWA Sprint Car Series returns to action on May 28, with a stop at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri.
