QUINCY, Ill. — Report by Race Chaser Online Managing Editor Jacob Seelman — Abreu Racing photo —
Rico Abreu’s schedule has shifted slightly for the remainder of the racing weekend.
Abreu announced Friday on his official Facebook page that after winning Thursday night’s opening round of the Neal Tire MOWA Sprint Car Series Illinois Speedweek, he will be taking the remainder of the weekend off, citing personal reasons for the need to step out of the seat.
The 23-year-old plans to resume racing next Thursday in the Belleville Midget Nationals at Belleville High Banks in Kansas.
Abreu has had a whirlwind season, competing in numerous types of cars across both dirt and pavement surfaces. The young superstar’s season has been highlighted by wins at the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in Tulsa, Okla. and his first NASCAR-sanctioned victory in the K&N Pro Series East at Columbus (Ohio) Motor Speedway.
Overall, Abreu has competed in 61 races in 2015, with wins in the IRA Bumper to Bumper Outlaw Sprint Series, POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series, USAC National Midget Series and the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series in addition to his Chili Bowl and K&N East scores.
