ANDERSON, Ind. — Jimmy McCune found his way to the top of the qualifying charts for the second week in a row Saturday with the Must See Racing Sprint Car Series, earning the Abe’s Auto Parts Fast Time Award at Anderson Speedway.

McCune, the second-to-last car out in the qualifying order, posted a fast lap of 10.710 seconds (84.034 mph) in the No. 88 Abes Auto Parts & Sales/B&B Machinery Movers/Rev-X Oil mount to garner his second fast time of the season.

The effort also moves McCune into third all-time on the MSR qualifying list, breaking a tie with Jacob Wilson after scoring his seventh-career fast time.

“It was a good lap,” McCune said. “The car felt comfortable and I was pretty happy with it. It’s a long night, though. We’ll see where we are later. 50 laps is a long time around this place and a lot can happen.”

His nephew, 19-year-old Anthony McCune, was second-fastest on the scoreboard after a lap of 10.829 seconds (83.110 mph) in the No. 8 Abe’s Auto Parts & Sales/B&B Machinery Movers/Sparco entry.

Saturday marked the first time that the two McCune cars have qualified one-two in MSR competition.

Jerry Caryer timed in a season-best third with a lap of 10.900 seconds (82.569 mph) in the No. 75c Jason Dietsch Sales/Tressler Plumbing/Ney Oil Company sprinter, followed by defending Anderson winner Chris Neuenschwander in fourth (10.930/82.342).

Brian Gerster, who led final practice and was the last car to qualify, got loose on his first lap and was fifth-quick (10.971/82.034) in the No. 50m RAM Engineering Midwest/Landrum Performance Springs machine for Dick Myers Racing.

Doug Dietsch, Charlie Schultz, Brian Vaughn, Tom Jewell and Jeff Bloom completed the top 10.

Racing on Intersect Night at the Races at Anderson Speedway is scheduled for an 8 p.m. start.
