Ranier Racing with MDM (RRMDM) announced on their Facebook page Wednesday afternoon that Spencer Davis has been signed to drive the No. 41 Davis Poultry Equipment/Ruud Chevrolet for the team in Sunday’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series East opener at New Smyrna Speedway, as well as select K&N East events throughout the 2016 season.

Davis joins formerly-announced teammate Kyle Benjamin as RRMDM’s second driver for the Jet Tools 150, race one of 14 for the K&N East field this year.

The 17-year-old from Dawsonville, Ga. has been a standout in both Super and Pro Late Models over the course of his racing career, and has a strong history at the half-mile oval in Central Florida. Davis’ first major event win came during the 2011 World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, and he won the 2014 World Series points title in the Pro Late Model class.

Sunday’s experience will not be the first time Davis has been in the K&N East ranks, either. The rising star scored three top-five finishes in four series starts last fall for NTS Motorsports, with a best finish of second at Iowa Speedway in July.

In addition to his stock car exploits, Davis also has open wheel experience at the short track level as well. He ran the full 2014 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour schedule for Hill Racing Enterprises in the famed No. 79 Coors Light Pontiac, finishing ninth in points with seven top 10 finishes. A combined 27 NASCAR Tour-Type Modified starts has produced two top-five and 10 top-10 finishes for the teenager, cementing him as one of the most versatile young drivers at the sport’s regional level.

“Spencer is a valuable addition to our program,” said Lorin Ranier, part of the Ranier Racing with MDM ownership group. “He’s accumulated a lot of seat time for someone his age. He’s a winner in Late Models and he showed well last year in the K&N East division. We’re looking forward to contributing to his growth as a race car driver.”
