OSWEGO, N.Y. — Another day, another fast time at Oswego Speedway for Canada’s Mike Lichty.

While he wasn’t quite able to eclipse his own International Supermodified Association track record set in May, Lichty and his No. 84 Reed’s Salvage team laid down the fastest lap in two-lap time trials yet again at the ‘Steel Palace’ on Saturday afternoon, scorching the five-eighths-mile in 14.777 seconds (152.264 mph) ahead of King of Wings VIII pres. by Helena Chemical Co. and Holiday Inn Express & Suites.

Lichty admitted he knew the lap wasn’t faster than the 14.730 second-clip he put down on Memorial Day weekend, but was pleased with the pole effort nevertheless.

“I knew it wasn’t (a track record) right away,” the Innerkip, Ontario native said. “It’s extremely windy today and the car was moving around quite a bit. I was hoping for that cloud that popped up to stay there for when we went out, but unfortunately we had to deal with the sun when it came back. We’ll see what the night brings, but I’m still very happy with the effort and we’ll try to back it up in the main.”

Dave Shullick Jr., who held the track record before Lichty broke it in May and also finished second to Lichty in the Irish Jack Murphy Memorial 50 on Memorial Day weekend at Oswego, timed in second-fastest with a lap of 14.971 seconds.

Tim Jedzrejek, driving the Howie Lane-owned No. 97, was third at 15.192 seconds. Mike Ordway Jr. took the Clyde Booth No. 61 to fourth and Mike McVetta’s home-built No. 22 rounded out the ‘Fast Five’.

Rob Summers, Ben Seitz, non-winged supermodified regular Dave Danzer, Kyle Edwards and Mark Sammut were the balance of the top 10.
