Just last night, Larry Joe Sroufe was frustrated following his non-winged 600cc dirt midget qualifying run. Less than 24 hours later, he wound up on top of the time sheets at the Rumble in Fort Wayne.

Sroufe, a long-time Rumble veteran, shot to the top of the board with a quick lap of 8.176 seconds and headed off all challengers to notch his first quick time award of the three-day weekend — outpacing the previous night’s fast qualifier Matt Janisch along the way.

Janisch, who Sroufe knocked off the top of the board, hung on to clock in second-fastest with a lap of 8.280 seconds after setting the track record in qualifying last night. Erick Rudolph slotted in behind him in third, almost two tenths off the pole time (8.421).

POWRi regular Daniel Robinson (8.530) and 2002 Rumble in Fort Wayne National Midget winner Mike Fedorcak (8.581) rounded out the fast five.

Positions six through ten were Blane Culp, Friday winner Jason Ormsby, Jonathon Lesiecki, Russ Gamester and Gary Klein. Last night’s runner-up, Clay Sanders, qualified a disappointing 16th.
