Four races into the 2015 =RSR= Full Throttle Cup Series (FTCS) season, and silly season has already heated up — with the hottest team in the league getting just a little bit hotter.

Steel Horse Racing announced on Thursday night that Nick Kohan has joined the organization, effective immediately. Kohan currently ranks 17th in the FTCS points standings, seven points out of the provisional 16-member Chase Grid.

“I am very excited to join the crew at Steel Horse, and I think this [move] can bring me to the next level,” Kohan said of the team transition. “SHR has proven to be a top team and working with guys like [Dan] Murray, [Johnathon] Caddell and [Jeff] Ward, to name a few, is an automatic upgrade in my eyes.”

“It’s not just about the speed either, it’s the familiarity with these guys. I’ve been racing with these guys since my first league race in iRacing so that goes a long way to generating success as well. I can’t wait to kick off the new partnership on Monday at Fontana.”

“I feel that Nick will brings vast experience and an extensive background in sim racing to our organization, and can step in and help us immediately,” said Steel Horse Racing team principal Jason Swann. “We are lucky to find a driver with such experience still at this point in the season. All of us are looking forward to what the future holds for us with Nick, and we are happy to have him as a part of our family.”

Kohan transitions to the potent SHR squad from Real Deal Sim Racing (RDSR), with whom he tallied three top-20 finishes — including a season-best eighth-place effort in the league’s most recent race at Phoenix International Raceway — despite a DNQ in the second race of 2015 at Atlanta.

“I want to make it clear that I had no problems at RDSR,” Kohan said. “I just know the guys at SHR a lot better. Things were not clicking at RDSR the way I wanted them to, and I feel it’s the right time to make a change. I can’t thank Mark Bratcher enough for the opportunity. [He’s] a class act guy — taking a chance on a kid he had no information on, and I’m very grateful for that.”

Kohan will kick off his tenure as a Steel Horse Racing driver during race five of the =RSR= Full Throttle Cup Series season, the Auto Club 180, on March 23. Live coverage of the event begins at 9:30 p.m. Eastern on LSRTV.
