SONOMA, Calif– Current Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series points leader Kyle Larson continues his red hot performance this season, as he wins final practice from Sonoma Raceway on Friday afternoon, ahead of Sunday’s Toyota/Savemart 350.
The Chip Ganassi Racing driver landed the top spot early in the session (75.899/94.389 mph). Larson, who won at Michigan International Speedway last weekend, is looking for back-to-back victories for the first time in his Cup series career.
In second place is 2015 race winner Kyle Busch (75.935/94.344 mph) . The Joe Gibbs Racing driver set the time late in the session as teams started to move over to qualifying trims. For Busch, this race kick started his 2015 championship season after missing the first 13 races when he sustained major injuries at Daytona earlier that season.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. finises his final practice at Sonoma in third, with AJ Allmendinger and Jamie McMurray rounding out the top five.
Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Brad Keselowski and Martin Truex Jr round out the rest of the top-10.
Trouble arose for Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender, Erik Jones early in the session. As his No.77 5-Hour Energy Toyota wheel hopped into turn 11, where he made hard contact with the outside tire barriers. He is forced to a backup car.
The next on track action for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is on Saturday June 24 at 2:45 pm ET, for qualifying for the Toyota/Savemart 350 on Fox Sports 1.
