ANAHEIM — Monster Energy AMA Supercross regular and Team Honda HRC rider Ken Roczen took to Instagram on Monday to give an update on the injuries he sustained in a hard crash during Saturday’s race in Anaheim’s Angel Stadium.
After Honda officials first reported that Roczen had suffered a compound left forearm fracture in the crash, where he was ejected from his bike on a triple jump, Roczen confirmed that his injuries are, in fact, worse than originally thought.
The 22-year-old German revealed in his Instagram post that he has a “dislocated wrist, dislocated elbow and compounded (broken) radius.”
Roczen, who won the first two rounds of the Supercross season, was transported to a local hospital for evaluation after the accident before flying to Colorado on Sunday morning to have his personal physician perform surgery.
“The first 30 (hours in the hospital) absolutely sucked, as none of the pain killers worked and (the arm) was really swollen,” Roczen added in the post. “(I’m) gonna need (a) few surgeries to get all this dialed (back in).”
No word was given from Honda officials on Monday as to Roczen’s status for the remainder of the year, but team manager Dan Betley did release a statement following Saturday night’s event in a Honda press release.
“Tonight was incredibly bittersweet. I’m incredibly proud of (teammate) Cole (Seely) for how he rode … but on the flip side, we’re all devastated for Ken,” Betley said. “That is one thing that makes our sport so tough — everything can change in an instant. It was such a brutal crash, so we’re grateful the injuries weren’t much worse. The Honda family wishes him the best and we can’t wait to see him back out there. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and we’re not going to let this stop us.”
