BRISTOL, Tenn. — Chase Briscoe has confirmed that his dirt track team will not only debut its 410ci winged sprint car program next weekend, it will do so with a potent one-two punch behind the wheel.

Briscoe and longtime friend Christopher Bell will each pilot a Chase Briscoe Racing entry during the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Spring Classic at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 on April 21, looking to make a splash for the CBR team in its Outlaws debut.

The visit to the high-banked, third-mile oval will mark Briscoe’s first start in a winged sprint car in nearly six years.

“Man, it’s been a while since I’ve raced with a wing on top,” laughed Briscoe. “We decided over the offseason to build some wing cars, and even though we knew the main focus was going to be on (Logan) Seavey with the non-winged stuff, we were going to go wing racing with him to and then it all led to this.

“I honestly didn’t expect to go wing racing until the first week in May, but then when we looked at the schedules and Bell reached out to me, he mentioned that we could fly straight from Richmond Friday to Pevely and go run. It just made sense to bring out the cars and go get as many laps as we can. The wing cars are finally done and we’ve been getting rained out every single weekend, it seems like, with the non-winged stuff. I just want to go racing and the guys at the shop are getting antsy. It’s just the perfect storm, really.”

Bell won an Outlaws feature last July at Eldora (Ohio) Speedway during the Knight Before the Kings Royal, so he knows what it takes to win against the best of the best in dirt sprint car racing.

“It’s gonna be a lot of fun. I just hope we go out and run strong,” said Bell, a three–time WoO winner. “The cars are gonna be nice, the motors are gonna be good … but when you go and run with the Outlaws, everyone has nice cars and strong motors, not to mention everyone is a great race car driver in that field.”

“It’s not going to be easy to go in and compete with them, but I’ve done it before and I know it’ll be enjoyable.”

Bell said it was a collaborative effort between he and Briscoe’s family to get the deal done for Pevely.

“We’d been talking about it for a while, and then he just hadn’t been able to finish the winged cars because his focus was on getting the non-winged cars done. Finally, it got to where they had a couple cars sitting there and we looked at each other and said, ‘Let’s do this,’” explained Bell. “We race Friday night at Richmond, so Saturday was open and it fell together really well.”

Between Bell and Briscoe, the two drivers have differing goals going into the event.

“If I just make the show, I’ll be happy … but I believe Bell can go get us a win,” said Briscoe. “We’re gonna go test, somewhere, next Tuesday to try and get some laps for me because it has been so long. … I’m just trying to help get everyone prepared as best we can.”

“If we beat the Outlaws in the first ever race Chase Briscoe Racing puts a winged car on the track, that’s going to be something to smile about,” Bell added. “We can’t go in and expect to beat the Outlaws, but man … that would be pretty cool. I’m just looking for a solid finish.”

For Briscoe, who has never raced at Pevely or even been to the facility, he knows there will be a learning curve to tackle.

“I’ve only raced with a wing five times in my life, I think, so I’m not going to say I’ll feel really comfortable … if we were racing non-winged there I’d say we’d be alright, but the winged deal in general is just going to take me some time to get comfortable with,” Briscoe explained. “When you show up (for the first time) with the Outlaws, you can’t expect to go out and run that great right off the bat. They’re the best in the world. We’ll just go and do the best we can.”

If Bell were to do the improbable and win the race for his team?

“At that point, the party would probably go on all night,” Briscoe smiled.
