CANTON, Ill. – After a successful partnership that included winning the 2017 USAC National Sprint Car Series championship together, Chris Windom and Baldwin Brothers Racing are going their separate ways.

Windom broke the news on social media Monday afternoon, noting that he’s on the hunt for a new ride as the Baldwin family steps back from sprint car racing.

Driving the familiar orange No. 5 sprinter, Windom raced to three wins, 29 top-five and 37 top-10 finishes in 40 starts this year for the Baldwin brothers, finishing third in points.

The group has competed together for the last three full seasons on the USAC trail, amassing 11 victories, 63 top-five and 99 top-10 finishes during that span, as well as off-and-on for years prior.

Windom noted that all good partnerships eventually come to an end.

“The end of an era has come for myself and the Baldwins,” Windom wrote. “After many race wins, multiple championships and our ultimate goal of a USAC National Sprint Car Series championship, they have made the decision to step back from sprint car racing. I cannot express my gratitude to them enough, and want to publicly thank Kenny and Margo (Baldwin) for every opportunity they gave me, which was more than I could have ever asked for.

“I also want to thank Derek Claxton for the countless hours he put in to give us a championship-winning race team. Without him, none of this would have been possible,” Windom added. “Thank you to Jeff Claxton, Bob Fox, AMSOIL, NOS Energy Drink, Jonathan Byrd’s Racing, my family and friends, all our fans and the endless list of people who supported us over the years.”

Despite moving on from this chapter of his career, Windom made it clear he doesn’t plan to disappear from the racing conversation.

“My 2019 plans are now the focus, and hopefully we will have some exciting news soon,” he concluded.

Notably, Windom made starts in all three USAC national divisions this season and ranks in the top five in the USAC Super License standings, which annually determines USAC’s overall national champion.

He also ran two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races this year for DGR-Crosley with Baldwin Brothers serving as the co-primary sponsor, earning a best finish of 14th at Ohio’s Eldora Speedway in July.
