LOVES PARK, Ill. – Anthony McCune kept his strong Saturday at Rockford Speedway going by collecting his second Must See Racing Sprint Car Series fast time of the season during Hamilton Trucking Time Trials.

The 20-year-old and former MSR Rookie of the Year was the final car to take time after leading the way in practice, setting a blistering pace of 11.601 seconds (77.580 mph) around the semi-banked quarter-mile oval with his No. 8 Abe’s Auto Parts & Sales/B&B Machinery Movers/Rev-X Oil entry.

Saturday marked McCune’s second-career fast qualifying effort with Must See Racing and his second in the last three races. He was three tenths of a second off of Jacob Wilson’s track-record time of 11.308 seconds.

“I just had to drive it in as hard as I could and hope it stuck,” noted McCune. “This is pretty cool, but with the invert, I’m not sure I want to keep making a habit of this (laughs). It’s good to know we have a fast car though.”

McCune’s uncle, three-time defending series champion Jimmy McCune, was second-fastest in the No. 88 Abe’s Auto Parts & Sales/B&B Machinery Movers/Rev-X Oil sprinter with a time of 11.736 seconds (76.687 mph). The elder McCune has won three of the five Must See Racing events at Rockford.

Wilson was third-quick with a time of 11.753 seconds (76.576 mph), followed by National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Jeff Bloom (12.098/74.392) and Charlie Schultz (12.105/74.349).

Adam Biltz got loose entering turn three on his first qualifying lap and smacked the outside wall with the left side of his John Reiser-owned No. 8a. Biltz was able to drive his car back to the pits, but did not make an official timed lap.

Racing action at Rockford Speedway is scheduled to kick off shortly after 6:30 p.m. local time.
