Less than 24 hours after scoring the pole for Sunday’s 46th Snowball Derby, Elliott again mopped the track with the rest of the field in qualifying for Saturday’s Pro Late Model Snowflake 100. The Hendrick Motorsports development driver set down a blistering lap of 16.303 seconds, nearly two tenths quicker than runner-up R.S. Senter and three-tenths faster than the old track record of 16.602.

“I mean, we’re obviously proud of it, but at the same time it’s just a starting spot,” the Dawsonville, Georgia native said following qualifying. “We can focus on the race now and we have both of our cars where they need to to be good when it counts, I hope.”

Hunter Robbins, Dwayne Buggay, and young ARCA and late model star Anderson Bowen completed the top five starters for Saturday night’s feature, which will roar to life following last chance qualifiers for both the Snowflake and Sunday’s Snowball Derby.

Notables locking in for the Snowflake 100 include former Derby polesitter Bubba Pollard (6th), John Hunter Nemechek (7th), Daniel Hemric (10th), two-time Snowflake winner and two-time Derby champion Augie Grill (15th), and Ben Kennedy (22nd).

When asked if he thought he could sweep both the Snowflake 100 and the Snowball Derby in the same weekend, a feat that has never been accomplished in Five Flags history, Elliott just smiled.

“We wouldn’t be here if we didn’t think we could win ’em both.”

The Allen Turner Snowflake 100 takes the green flag at 7:30 PM CT tonight, with live radio coverage on speed51.com.
