GREENVILLE, Miss. – Story by Race Chaser Online Managing Editor Jacob Seelman –

All-time USCS K&N Filters Outlaw Modified Series wins leader Chris Moore showed why he is one of the best-ever in an open wheel modified after racing to the victory as part of Saturday night’s third annual Ellis Palasini Classic at Greenville Speedway.

Moore, from Hernando, Miss., dominated the 25-lap affair, racing to a 1.718-second victory over Ronnie Vernon after starting the night from the outside pole. The win was Moore’s first of the season and 16th under USCS sanction — twice as many as the next closest competitor on the series’ all-time list.

Vernon, out of Friendship, Tenn., chased Moore all the way to the finish but had to settle for the runner-up honors. He was followed by series points leader J.C. Waller, from Arlington, Tenn., who padded his advantage in the standings by finishing on the podium in third.

K&N Filters polesitter Josh Greene, out of Paragould, Ark., fell back early but hung on for a fourth-place finish with Merrouge, Louisiana’s Roger Taylor rounding out the top five.

Charles Sibley, from Livingston, La., led the next group of drivers with a sixth-place effort and series newcomer Chase Delrio, hailing from West Monroe, La., finished seventh. Hermitage, Ark. driver Clint Mashburn started third but drifted back to eighth-place at the checkered flag and Merrouge, La. pilot Duffy Allen came home ninth. Will Musgrove, from Bastrap, La., capped off the top 10.

While Vernon finished second in the feature, he did kick off the night by winning the K&N Filters Power Dash. Greene took the win in the Wilwood Disc Brakes First Heat, and Moore captured the checkers in the Aero Race Wheels Second Heat. Greene’s performance also landed him the K&N Filters Pole Award, by virtue of a straight-up start from heat race results. Roger Taylor passed the most cars in the feature (eight) to garner the Comp Cams Hard Charger Award.

The USCS K&N Filters Outlaw Modified Series returns to action on Saturday, August 15 at Jackson Motor Speedway for the Summer Speed Xplosion, after their first attempt to visit the quarter-mile oval on May 24 was rained out.
