DARLINGTON, S.C. – Brandon Jones will have a big hole to dig out of if he hopes to contend for the victory in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Darlington Raceway.

Jones’ car failed pre-qualifying inspection four times and, as a result, will not be permitted to qualify for the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200. He will also have to serve a pass-through penalty once the green flag waves to begin the race.

In addition, Jones has lost 10 driver points and the No. 19 team has lost 10 owner points, and car chief Joey Elliott has been ejected for Saturday afternoon’s 200-mile race at the 1.366-mile, egg-shaped oval.

Jones finished Friday’s two practice sessions 16th and 10th on the board and was 12th-fastest in 10-lap average speed.

Despite the points deduction, Jones remains sixth in the Xfinity Series regular season standings.

Chase Elliott’s No. 23 GMS Racing team also ran afoul of the technical inspectors ahead of qualifying on Saturday, failing pre-qualifying tech three times.

Elliott’s car chief, Adam Ebel, was ejected for the remainder of the event.
