RICHMOND,Va. — For the second consecutive week, NASCAR’s Laser Inspection Station found a victim of post-race technical inspection in the Sprint Cup Series.

Following Saturday night’s Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond International Speedway, Martin Truex Jr.’s No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota failed the post-race LIS check after the two-time season winner and Chase qualifier finished third behind race winner Denny Hamlin and runner-up Kyle Larson.

Truex dominated the race, leading 193 of the 407 laps, but was derailed in his efforts to score his third win of the year by a late-race pit road speeding penalty.

Any penalties and fines will be assessed this week, having been typically announced on Wednesdays this year.

Truex’s wins this season came at Charlotte in May and Darlington last weekend, and a NASCAR official at RIR confirmed that any points penalties would be assessed to Truex’s regular-season points total, not his Chase total.

As such, potential penalties would also not affect his Chase seeding. Truex enters the playoffs as the No. 6 ranked driver in the field of 16.

LIS infractions have traditionally carried a 15-point deduction this year, and last week at Darlington, Ryan Newman and Kyle Larson both failed post-race inspection for failing at the LIS station as well. Their crew chiefs were also fined.
