VANCOUVER, Wash. — Greg Biffle announced via his Twitter account that his father, Garland Jack Biffle, passed away on Tuesday morning.

The sad news for Biffle comes following his first top-five effort of the season at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday, and precedes this coming weekend’s Crown Royal presents the Combat Wounded Coalition 400 at the Brickyard on Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Biffle, who was guided into the sport by his father early on in his lifetime, revealed the news at 11:28 a.m. — roughly an hour following his father’s passing.

My father/veteran Garland Jack Biffle passed away this morning at 10:32am.. He taught me some much in life and I will miss him greatly..RIP

Biffle is in his 14th season of competition in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, and is a former champion of both the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (2000) and NASCAR XFINITY Series (2002). He has 19 career Cup wins, 13 poles and 174 top 10 finishes in 493 career premier series starts.

This season, Biffle has one top five and three top 10 finishes, along with a pole qualifying effort at Daytona Int’l Speedway earlier in July. He ranks 22nd in drivers’ points, 66 points behind the final Chase Grid spot currently held by Dale Earnhardt Jr.
