ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Report by Race Chaser Online Managing Editor Jacob Seelman — Noah Graham/Getty Images for NASCAR photo — If winning the PEAK Stock Car Dream Challenge and getting a shot in a Bill McAnally Racing car as a development driver for Michael Waltrip Racing was living a dream, Christian PaHud may never want to wake up.
PaHud, a native of Dayton, Ohio now living in Harrisburg, N.C., scored his first career NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Coors Light Pole Award ahead of his debut series start at All American Speedway on Saturday evening. PaHud toured the banked one-third mile oval in 13.641 seconds (87.882 mph) to claim the prime starting position in his No. 99 PEAK Toyota.
Sunoco rookie James Bickford, who led both series practice sessions earlier in the day, was the second-to-last car to go out in qualifying and placed his car second on the grid with a lap of 13.705 (87.472). Thomas Martin, who was on the provisional pole for much of the session, wound up third at 13.835 (86.650).
PaHud’s teammate Brandon McReynolds qualified fourth and Dylan Lupton, second in championship points coming into the event, rounded out the top five.
Four-time winner this season David Mayhew clocked in sixth and championship leader Greg Pursley will roll off seventh. Jacob Gomes and rookies Gracin Raz and Luis Tyrrell were the rest of the top 10 starters.
Two-time Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip qualified 13th.
The Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 is scheduled to roll off at 8:30 p.m. local time.
