October 5, 2013 – By Jacob Seelman for Speed77 Radio and Race Chaser Online – Gaffney, S.C. – For Rick Goss, his home-field advantage didn’t quite pay off the night before, but he certainly gave the Carolina crowd a show on Saturday night at Cherokee Speedway.

The Charlotte, N.C. native streaked past Friday night’s USCS Rockauto.com 600 Sprint Car Series winner Justin Lineman on Lap Two and led the final 14 laps of the 15-lap main event to collect his fourth-career USCS 600 feature victory, and second of the 2013 season. For Goss, it wasn’t a true home-crowd win, but it was certainly close enough.

“We don’t run with these guys all the time, but when we do, we come to win. To take one in front of the Carolina crowd, it’s a good feeling for all of us hometown guys,” Goss said following the event in Victory Lane.

Friday night’s 600 winner, Justin Lineman, pressured Goss over the 15-lap main event, but never quite had enough to seal the deal on a weekend sweep.

“We were close, but Rick was just a little bit better tonight,” the Linwood, N.C. driver explained post-race. “We’ll be back though; we’re not planning on it being another two years before we find Victory Lane again!”

Tom Schearer (Mertztown, PA), Trever Baker (Shreve, OH), and Coby Adams (Mooresville, N.C.) completed the top five finishers.

Justin Lineman kicked off the evening’s racing action with a win in the five-lap Hoosier Speed Dash. Rick Goss then won the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat, with Tom Shearer grabbing the win in the Rockauto.com Second Heat. Tyler Price advanced the most positions in the main event to collect the Wilwood Disc Brakes Hard Charger Award.

The USCS Rockauto.com 600 Sprint Car Series next returns to action this Friday and Saturday night with a doubleheader weekend in Poplar Bluff, Missouri at the Poplar Bluff Speedway. For ticket information and track schedules, visit poplarbluffspeedway.net.
