If there’s such a thing as a perfect race in motorsports, Cody Byus Racing driver David Comstock came as close as you can come to having one during Monday night’s =RSR= Icebreaker Winter Series finale.

Comstock, behind the wheel of the No. 20 CBR/Monster Energy Chevrolet, dominated Monday night’s Sin City Meltdown at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, leading 121 of 125 laps en route to the victory in the double points affair.

The win, his second of the 2014/2015 winter season and second career Icebreaker Series checkered flag, also allowed Comstock to lock up his first career Icebreaker championship.

“There was one point about 25 laps from the end where I got a little nervous with (E.J) coming behind me, but as soon as he burned off that right front I knew it was basically ours to lose with the gap we had,” Comstock said. “Just feels great to lock up the championship like this, we had the speed and never changed a bolt on it all night.”

Comstock, who led the race’s first 115 laps before a caution flew with ten laps remaining, came down pit road for fresh tires and knifed his way back to the point within a lap of the restart on lap 119 – going three-wide up the middle with Bobby Terrell and Shawn Breitzman to retake the top spot.

He never gave it back from there.

“We were getting a little selfish and greedy there at the end, to be honest,” Comstock admitted. “Thankfully, Shawn saw the run that both Bobby and I had and gave us enough room there. I could have settled for third or second, but I don’t like settling for third or second — I want to win — and we were able to do that tonight.”

Terrell hung on to finish second, skirting through a massive crash on the backstretch coming to three laps to go that ended the race under caution. That incident began when Breitzman tagged the wall coming off of turn two and was shunted down off the SAFER Barrier into traffic while running inside the top five. Breitzman was then tagged and began flipping wildly as multiple cars were collected in the chaos.

William Kempf also made it through the accident and notched his best finish of the winter, completing the podium in third. Brennan Mercer and Matt LaCross rounded out the top five.

While Comstock was dominating and celebrating, his two championship rivals entering the night – E.J. O’Rourke and Dwayne Vincent – encountered troubles that took them out of contention to battle for the crown.

O’Rourke was involved in the caution with ten to go that sparked the final restart, flipping wildly into the catchfence and down the frontstretch after slight contact with Stefan Marinak while the two were racing for second. O’Rourke finished 21st in the final rundown, out of the event, and landed third in points at the conclusion of the race.

Vincent’s night ended much earlier – the driver of the No. 9 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet got together with Dan Murray exiting turn two and slammed the inside wall, causing severe damage to his machine and causing Vincent to go multiple laps down for repairs. The championship leader entering the night ultimately ended up 19th on the race track, nine laps down, and second in the standings.

In total, the race featured just two lead changes between two drivers and had five cautions for 19 laps.

With the conclusion of the Icebreaker Series, Real Sim Racing now looks ahead to the official start of the 2015 season with the kickoff for the =RSR= Full Throttle Cup Series, the Full Throttle Duels, on Feb. 16 at 9:30 p.m. Eastern. The first points race of the FTCS season, the Daytona 250, airs live on LSRTV at 9:30 p.m. Eastern the following Monday, Feb. 23.
